The site of the Arkadi monastery finds itself in a situation encountered by a great many regional organizations in Europe, that is to say, a site which needs piecemeal technical improvement but forced to maintain some semblance of (cultural and administrative) cohesion.

The pilot operation in Crete, administered by the European City of Music, will help in : the installation of a protective lightning conductor to the entire site, to be carried out
by the
Indelec company

This carillon was made and installed by the Clock-o-Matic company.

The creation of a small carillon with computer controlled automations that offer visitors a concert of the traditional sounds of the Orthodox Church as well as melodies associated with each European country.

It should be noted that it is the bell caster from Crete, Papadakis, who is not an IDC medici partner,
will furnish the bells.

This undertaking will be financed by private funds and subventions from towns in Crete historically linked to the Arkadi monastery, as well as by the regional services of Crete and by the archaeological services of the Greek Minister of Culture and the Church.



De par le nouveau découpage administratif des communes, en Crète, le monastère d'Arkadi ne dépend plus
de la ville de Réthymnon.

C’est pourquoi, pour poursuivre le laboratoire méthodologique que représentent les opérations pilotes
du programme IDC-medici, la ville de Réthymnon a choisi comme nouveau site
"l'église de l'Assomption"
située dans l'agglomération de Gallos.

Ces travaux effectués sous le contrôle du XIIIe service des Antiquités Byzantines se sont achevés en février 2002.
