The Great  Jubilee Bell

On October 7, 1998, Pope John Paul II blessed the reduced scale model
of the Great Jubilee Bell.
The responsible of the Marinelli foundry and of the Ge.Pard
were present at this ceremony.

It would be difficult to make a list off all the bells
which saw the light of day at the Marinelli foundry.
The popes themselves were behind the creation of the most famous ones. It was, in fact, during Pope Wojtyla’s historic visit on March 19, 1995 that the idea of making
the Great Jubilee Bell was spawned. The bell has a circumference of about six metres and weighs more than five tons. From the moment of its conception in clay and fire, it began to symbolize the hope of all mankind.
The resonant side bears an etching of the coat of arms
of John Paul II, the image of the pope on the threshold
of the Holy Gates, crowned with the eye of the
Holy Trinity with the inscription :
"the pontifical foundry Marinelli in Agnone"
and "Jubileum MM".

The great bell of St-Peter’s and all the bells in the world responded in unison to the knell of the jubilee bell
in its proclamation of faith and in its bringing
peace and hope to all.
