The exhibition "Art and
Bells" offers visitors 24 large photographic reproductions (80cm x 120cm) of objects,
illuminations, sculptures, engravings and paintings dating from the 4th century
B.C. to the middle of the 19th century. These illustrations allow for the understanding of the role of bell-related objects through the centuries and on all continents. In all cultures whether based on wood, bronze or terra cotta, the bell or its sculptured, engraved or painted reproduction has always been a fundamental element in the life of a community, a symbol of power or protection, an instrument of either music or witchcraft. |
| This voyage through
the ages and cultures make the visitor aware of the universal dimension of the bell universe and offers him, no matter what his origins might be, an opportunity to bear in mind that life be it religious, cultural or social is punctuated by the message rung out by the bell. |
