The Paccard foundry was opened eight generations ago
in the town of Annecy in the French department
of Haute-Savoie (objective region 5b). Now located in the same department, but in the town
of Sevrier, it is one of the four largest foundries in the world and the only one in
France to have maintained such a level of excellence in bell tuning as to ensure its
reputation in Europe and throughout the world. In France, the foundry cast the great bell
of the Rouen Cathedral (known as the Joan of Arc), destroyed during the Second World War,
as well as so-called and still existing Savoyard bell of the Sacré-Coeur in Paris. It
also created the 70 bells carillon, found in Chambery, which is the largest in Europe.
To share with the public the richness of the family collection and to assure to the
region its place in bell casting and
the art of the bell, the Paccard foundry opened in 1992
what has become a well-visited museum.
For the year 2000, the Paccard foundry was chosen
to cast the largest swinging bell in the world
(a 32-ton bell in the key of A).
